Collin Browne
Professional Profile:
As a psychodynamic psychotherapist my aim is to explore the root causes of painfully repetitive patterns of feeling, thought, and behavior. By exploring these patterns and identifying their links to the past, over time these distressing, automatic experiences become transformed into experiences over which one feels a sense of greater control and choice in their present. Through the therapeutic relationship and deeper self-understanding, the goal is not just to eliminate symptoms, but to enable fulfilling and stable relationships, successfully navigate life's ongoing difficulties, and feel fundamentally more free, creative, and self-aware. First and foremost, this is accomplished by providing a space to speak about yourself in a context of confidential, compassionate understanding, where moral judgments have no place. This deep form of psychotherapy, while at times difficult and challenging, has the capacity to produce more lasting forms of change.
As an immigrant in the UK myself, as well as having worked for years as a therapist in largely immigrant communities in the US, I specialize in working cross-culturally and with people who have personal or family histories of migration. I also specialize in working with people who identify as LGBTIA+, are experiencing relationship difficulties (e.g. romantic, familial, workplace, and friendships), have non-traditional romantic relationships (e.g. polyamory, non-monogamy, open relationships), and people working in the creative industries. I am currently engaged in research and writing on the interactions between mental health, economics, and contemporary creative labor.
